Carel Wildenboer

Carel Wildenboer is a South African qualified physiotherapist with a special interest in Activations (Be Activated – ‘The Douglas Heel Method’)

He has various successful physiotherapy practices in KZN, South Africa.

Carel worked and trained under Douglas Heel and became the only lecturer, other than the founder,to teach the medical training course, Be Activated, worldwide.

Early Life

Carel Frederik Wildenboer was born in Pretoria on 17 October 1978. He is the youngest of 5 siblings. His father, Johan Herman Wildenboer, worked as a Minister in the Dutch Reformed Church and is from Dutch ancestry. His mother, Esme Bernadette Wildenboer, worked as a Social Worker for most of her career.

Carel attended Grenswag Primary school in Kokstad, KZN, South Africa, until his family moved to Pinetown, KZN, South Africa. He continued his schooling at Gelofte School and completed Grade 12 in 1996 with an A aggregate. He was deputy head boy in 1996.

After school he travelled for two years through Europe and the Middle East. He then returned to South Africa in 1999 to study BSc Physiotherapy at the University of the Free State (UFS), Bloemfontein. He was a member of the university men’s residence, Huis Abraham Fischer, from 1999 to 2002, and was elected as Head of the House in 2001.

Career

Completed the degree, BSc Physiotherapy at the UFS, Bloemfontein, South Africa in 2002.

He completed his Physiotherapy Community Service year at Philladelphia Hospital, Dennilton, Mpumalanga, South Africa in 2003.

In January 2004 he started his own private physiotherapy practice, CW Physio’s, in Kloof, KZN, South Africa. He opened another 4 practices between 2004 and 2018. His main practice moved to BUSAMED Hillcrest Private Hospital in 2012. CW Physio’s had 15 employees in 2018 spread across various practices in Hillcrest and Howick.

His practice provides physiotherapy services to a wide scope of patients both in-hospital and in an outpatient setting.

Carel has always had a specific interest in Sports Physiotherapy and Orthopaedic conditions.

In 2011 he attended a ‘Muscle Activation’ course presented by Douglas Heel in Durban. This sparked a passion for Activations which would become a specific interest from here onwards.

In 2017 Carel furthered his career by a becoming a presenter of the Be Activated Level 1 course, along with the founder and international lecturer, Douglas Heel. He co-presented alongside Douglas Heel throughout 2017 and 2018.  Carel has been presenting the course independently since 2019.  Be Activated is an international course presented to medical professionals in various countries of the world including UK, Ireland, Scotland, Denmark, USA, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, UAE and South Africa. In 2019 Carel was the only lecturer, other than Douglas Heel, presenting Be Activated worldwide.

In 2019 Carel created BE123 Inc. BE123 is now the business entity through which Carel is presenting course, workshops and individual sessions.

Carel currently presents the Be Activated Level 1 course across the major cities of South Africa as well as
assisting internationally in Australia.

In 2020 Carel relocated to Melbourne, Australia, where he started the BE123 – Activation Clinic. This clinic combines the physiotherapy approach  using activation techniques on clients from all walks of life including elite athletes, everyday office workers and tradesmen, children and the elderly.

PERSONAL LIFE

Carel Wildenboer married Dr Nicolette Calitz (paediatrician) on 4 March 2006 and they have lived in Waterfall, KZN, South Africa ever since. They have two daughters born in 2008 and 2011.

In 2020 Carel and his family relocated to Melbourne Australia to start a new life, and to focus on Be Activated in his clinic and teaching

Carel has 3 brothers and a sister.

Carel is an avid sports fan and also does social road and trail running in his free time.
