Fitness Rehab & Sports Physiotherapy Clinic in Hawthorn

Here we work with clients on a ‘one to one‘ basis.

We work with clients from all walks of life - from the average office worker to social and elite athletes; from young children to the elderly. When we are able to improve your movement pattern, it will positively affect your function in what you do in work, life or sport.

It is important for us to know the person we work with. For this reason, a lot of time is spent understanding our client’s specific problems and needs. We like to say, ‘What’s in the Mind is in the Body and what’s in the Body is in the Mind’. Therefore, a clear understanding of both is of great importance.

Our client’s unique compensation patterns will be evaluated and discussed and we will explain the typical injury risk associated with their pattern.

Activations will be performed on our clients for Zone 1, 2 and 3. Clients will be instructed on specific home advice and activation programs. The aim is always to empower clients by assisting them to understand how their body is compensating and how to maintain an optimal 123 movement pattern.

Clients are generally seen for 3-5 sessions of 60min each, so as to work through the basic activation program.

Follow up sessions are arranged as per the needs of our clients and varies accordingly. Our aim is always to resolve problems and provide long term solutions.

For elite sportsmen, follow up sessions may be arranged on a more regular basis. Here the aim is to constantly help to maintain an optimal 123 firing pattern in order to improve performance and limit injuries. And for those that see the value…there is always more. Next, we add activations to restore Visual Field discrepancies, training with the ‘Butt Bungee’, level 2 activations, Mind vs Body training, etc.

For our elite sportsmen we suggest activation sessions on the field. We would work with sportsmen and their coaches in their sporting environment. We would address specific restrictions or problems they are experiencing. We constantly measure our effectiveness against their specific sporting ability.

Be Activated

Reset your body to its fullest potential. Need shifts in strength, flexibility and speed?

Be Activated is all about correcting movement and restoring balance in the nervous system.

What is Be Activated?

The Be Activated approach (developed by Douglas Heel) is all about correcting movement pattens. Incorrect movement patterns are often the root cause to pain, injuries, and poor performance. When we remove specific soft tissue restrictions, whilst stimulating the nervous system, we can improve the efficiency of movement and correct the root cause of dysfunction.

Who Are Activations For?

Activations can be used on people from all walks of life. From elite sportsmen to office workers. Children and pensioners. We focus on correcting breathing and movement patterns which are typically related to regular overload and injuries. When we are able to restore balance in the body, we breathe and move more efficiently and can maintain an optimal state of mind. This improves our physical and mental performance in all aspects of life, work and sport.

At the physio Activation Clinic we believe in….

Treating the root cause of injuries and dysfunction in order to achieve long term results.

Combining traditional physiotherapy with the Be Activated approach to improve results.

Enhancing the effectiveness of exercise and training through activations.

Educating our clients to understand why their bodies break down and how they can take control of their own health.

Spending time with our clients, which is why our sessions are standardly 60 minutes long.

Working with our hands on our clients. By stimulating the nervous system and removing physical soft tissue restrictions in the body, we aim to restore a normal movement pattern

Improve physical and mental performance by restoring and maintaining a normal 123 movement.

Limiting and preventing injuries by correcting movement.

Holistic management. We recognise the important connection between the mind and the body and that we need to consider both in order restore function.

Adding value with all that we do

Sports Physiotherapist FAQs

Got a Physio question? We’re here to help.

  • Do you use normal physiotherapy methods?

At the activation clinic we use conventional physiotherapy principles in combination with specialised activation techniques to get the best results. Activations are used in conjunction with massage techniques, exercise therapy, dry needling, strapping, postural correction and many more modalities as required by each individual client.

  • Can you assist with postural problems?

Bad posture is so often linked to overload and injury in the body. Unfortunately, correcting posture is about more than just remembering to sit and stand up straight. We need the correct mobility and muscle control in the body to maintain a good posture. We effectively use activation principles to give your body the ability to maintain a healthier posture.

  • What makes the Activation Clinic different?

We use the Be activated principles as the starting point in treating all our clients. We are therefore able to focus on addressing the cause of pain and injuries rather than just easing your symptoms. We place a huge emphasis on educating our clients and empowering them to take control of their own health and wellbeing.

  • Why do you use the Be Activated approach?

In our clinic we use activations techniques with all our clients. With this approach, it allows for us to zoom in on the cause of pain, dysfunction and injuries. When we are able to address the root cause of problems, we are able to make a long-term difference

  • How often do we need to come in for follow up sessions?

Each client is different and will require a slightly different approach. We generally suggest 4-5 sessions to get through the basics of what is needed to improve your movement patterns. These sessions are 60 minutes long and done weekly. Clients are trained to perform a customised maintenance program in order to help them improve their health without always needing ongoing professional treatment.

  • Do you work with sports teams and athletes?

We often work with athletes and teams on both social and an elite level. Here our focus is on improving performance and at the same time limiting injuries by improving your movement pattern. When we are able to get your body to move more efficiently it makes you stronger, faster, more agile and less prone to overload and injury.

  • Do you only work with sportspeople?

We work with individuals of all walks of life. Most people in modern life learn to move their bodies in an abnormal way. When we use these compensation movement patterns it leads to persistent overload of specific parts of the body. This overload is often underlying to chronic pain and repetitive injuries. The scary thing is that we are often unaware of our compensations and the impact it has on our health.

  • How long do activations last for?

This largely depends on the individual, however we are generally able to positively influence our clients on a long term basis. We focus on educating our clients in order to take control of their own future health. The aim is not to see our clients on an ongoing basis. Our aim is to help create long term solutions. If you never have to see us again…that is first prize

  • How long does a session last?

We see the value in spending enough time with you as a client. Our typical sessions run for 60min. We spend time understanding your unique situation and needs. In order to treat you more effectively, we not only need to have a better understanding of your problem, but also of who you are in your work, sport and personal life. These things influence our health and have to be assessed in order to be more successful in helping you.
